A little history about Mount Pearl...
Did you know that Mount Pearl is actually Newfoundland's second largest city? A lot of people mistake it for being a part of St. John’s, but it’s technically its own independent city. The population is roughly 25,000 people, of whom most don’t even realize it’s its own city. Most think Mount Pearl is absorbed into the capital.
How about a little history of the name? Did you know it was originally named Mount Cochrane? That’s right. The area to the west of St. John’s was given to a Royal Navy Commander named James Pearl by Governor Sir Thomas Cochrane in 1829, as a reward for his incredible military career. He was given 500 acres of land. He had to name it Mount Cochrane. The thing is, James Pearl didn’t get along with Thomas Cochrane, and so when Cochrane left the island of Newfoundland, he quickly changed it to his name, and Mount Pearl stayed ever since.
Mount Pearl, once a horse-racing hub for the upper class of St. John’s, is today a beautiful short drive southwest on the Trans-Canada Highway from St. John’s, Newfoundland. A place where we, St. John’s Junk Removal Pros, also do junk removal in.
